Double Helix at Goodspeed

As I sit down to write this post, I can't help but feel a sense of gratitude and excitement that comes from being a part of the Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals. This year marked my second time participating in this incredible event, but it was a completely different experience than the first. Instead of being behind the table as a production assistant, I was fortunate enough to join the talented cast of the new musical, Double Helix, as the character Raymond Gosling.

The entire two-week experience was a whirlwind, and I am so grateful to have been a part of it. I am proud to say that I have now experienced both sides of this crazy process. Putting a basically sung-though musical together this fast have me spending most my nights after rehearsal, in my room, with only me and the everchanging script. We were constantly receiving edits to the script and score, and it was a real testament to the team's talent and hard work that we were able to learn a basically sung-through musical in just two short weeks.

But even with the long hours and the pressure to deliver a great performance, there was a sense of joy and excitement that permeated every aspect of the process. From the first table read to the final performance, we were all working towards a common goal and were committed to creating something truly special.

The true beauty of Double Helix lies in its story and the team behind it. Madeline Myers, Patrick Sulken, and Scott Swartz are truly remarkable writers who have created a profoundly human story that reflects the problems we continue to face in the world today. Their ability to capture complex emotions and ideas in a musical format is nothing short of brilliant, and the score they have written only adds to the production's beauty.

I am truly grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented team of artists, both on and off the stage. From the cast to the creative team and everyone in between, everyone was so supportive, passionate, and committed to bringing this story to life. And, of course, I am immensely grateful to Goodspeed for providing a platform for new musicals and for allowing me to be a part of this incredible festival once again.

I look forward to see the full production of Double Helix at the Bay Street Theatre. Thank You All!
